2016 Was the Warmest Earth Ever Recorded

  1. According to NASA, the global average temperature last year was 0.94 Celcius (1.69 Fahrenheit) above the 20th century average, and 0.04 Celcius (0.07 degrees F) warmer than 2015, which was also a record year.

Although a warmer Pacific Ocean because of El Niño was a contributor, the biggest increase in temperature is from humans adding greenhouse gas to the atmosphere.

Recording Earths average temperature began in 1880. Since then, last year, January to August were the warmest ever.

2017 could be cooler, unless there is an increase in volcanic activity.
