Bixby is the name, the New Samsung Galaxy S8 launching next week is the game.
This new AI assistant is going head to head with Amazon Echo and Apple Siri.
Of course there are other AI’s out there, like Google Assistant, Microsoft Cortana, IBM Watson, and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg Jarvis.
What Samsung says is different about Bixby will be it’s ability to work across multiple applications at the same time.
For example, you can tell Bixby to find a picture of Jane, and send it to your friend Bob.
They are planning to include this AI in all of their appliances, from air conditioners to TVs.
Bixby, reheat this plate of pasta. 2 minutes later your microwave oven tells your smartwatch that your food is ready.
AI assistant technology is expected to grow to $15 billion by 2021.
Samsung did try to launch an AI assistant five years ago, but was eclipsed by Siri and Google Assistant.
This time however, Samsung acquired a key company, Viv Labs. Viv developed Siri, and has a stronger AI now, allowing it to answer more complex questions like, what’s the weather going to be tomorrow night in New York.
It would seem Samsung has a head start on the competition with several appliances all over the homes.
For now however, it will exist on one device, a smartphone.
